At Roosevelt the whole school gathered to witness the sight of a solar eclipse on the first day of the 2017-2018 school year. Science teacher Sarah Schaefer started the new year with a unique science experience and provided staff and students alike with 500 NASA-certified glasses which were donated to safely witness the eclipse, the first in the United States in 38 years. "There's nothing better than getting students excited about the learning process and being able to take part in it and be active with it," said Schaefer. "So this was the perfect opportunity for the first day of school." Local news station WREX visited Roosevelt to document the experience, and their coverage can be seen here.
